Specify the incoming strip accurately

A flat steel clamp machine selection should identify material grade and condition, not just strip width and thickness. Materials with similar dimensions may behave differently during feeding, punching and bending. Describe surface and edge conditions

Explain whether the strip is coated, oily, scaled or supplied with a particular finish. Note known variation in width, thickness or incoming straightness. If appearance matters on the finished clamp, identify the surfaces and areas that will be inspected. Ask how the proposed feeding and forming arrangement will be evaluated against those requirements.

Use representative material in the trial

A sample produced from another strip grade can illustrate the operating sequence without proving the result for your material. Record the trial stock and any differences from regular supply. Where the intended material cannot be used immediately, keep the application question open until an appropriate confirmation method is agreed.

Keep assumptions with the order

Attach the agreed material information to the final specification. If future work may use stainless steel, a different coating or stronger strip, request a separate review rather than assuming compatibility.
